LUMS Learning Institute
Tech Enhanced Learning
Under the ambit of professional development, LLI aims to equip faculty and staff at LUMS and beyond with the technology tools needed to enhance teaching and learning. Currently the technology enhanced learning verticals focuses on two areas:
Artificial Intelligence Teaching Lab
The LUMS Learning Institute (LLI) is committed to empowering faculty across all schools: SBASSE, SDSB, MGSHSS, SOE, and SAHSOL to navigate the evolving landscape of higher education with confidence. Our focus is on fostering a shared understanding of how Artificial Intelligence impacts pedagogy, assessment of innovation, and ethical academic practice. This commitment is centralized in the AI Teaching Lab (AITL), a faculty-led collaborative space designed for thoughtful reflection and dialogue. Rather than focusing on tools alone, the Lab serves as a dedicated platform for educators to discuss the responsible integration of AI, share classroom experiments, and develop strategies that protect academic integrity while enhancing human expertise. This initiative ensures that our teaching community remains at the forefront of responsible digital pedagogy, transforming classroom learning through ethical and innovative instructional strategies.
Artificial Intelligence for Working Professionals
Our AI workshops extend beyond academia, welcoming professionals from various industries, including managers, specialists, and CEOs from organizations like Nishat and IST. Participants have left satisfied, with 92% in one workshop feeling their concerns about AI were addressed. Notably, 45% who initially hadn't engaged much with AI tools expressed intentions to use them daily and efficiently after the session.
Artificial Intelligence for Educators beyond LUMS
LLI supports educators from diverse backgrounds at different universities. Workshops like "AI for Law" led by experts such as Rehana focus on utilizing AI for legal research, case studies, and document drafting. Participants explore prompt engineering and the ethical implications of AI in law, emphasizing cautious and informed use. Additionally, our data science and machine learning sessions introduce professors nationwide to these dynamic fields.
Artificial Intelligence Conversations at LUMS
Engaging with vice-chancellors, deans, department chairs and centre heads from all schools, LLI fosters meaningful conversations about AI's role in education. These discussions encourage the development of school-wide policies and provide training on leveraging AI effectively while understanding potential pitfalls. By educating leaders, we aim to guide the responsible integration of AI technologies within the academic community.
Flipping and Blending Classrooms
Through theoretical learning, and a range of demonstrative, experiential activities— this workshop will focus on equipping educators with the exposure and methods needed to flip their own classrooms for a more engaging and effective learning experience for students.
Teaching in Large Classrooms Effectively
Experience an interactive workshop that dives deep into innovative engagement and assessment techniques tailored for large classes, while exploring a range of high and low-tech solutions designed to captivate and empower both you and your students.
Design Thinking for Online and In-Person Learning
In the rapidly evolving landscape of education, the role of educators has never been more crucial. In online learning, this role requires a more diverse and empathetic approach to learning experience design. To meet the diverse needs of students and prepare them for an ever-changing world, it is essential to adopt innovative approaches to teaching and problem-solving.
Engage and Assess: Practical Tools for Formative Feedback with Menti, PollEV and Google Forms
This workshop is for faculty members across all disciplines who want to explore effective ways to enhance student engagement and improve formative assessments using tech tools like PollEv, Menti, and Google Forms. Through hands-on practice and guided discussions, participants will learn how to integrate these tools into their teaching, regardless of their current tech proficiency level. The session aims to equip educators with practical strategies to incorporate technology effectively into their classroom practices.
