Engage & Assess: Practical Tools for Formative Feedback with Menti, PollEv, and Google Forms

Workshop description

This workshop is for faculty members across all disciplines who want to explore effective ways to enhance student engagement and improve formative assessments using tech tools like PollEv, Menti, and Google Forms. Through hands-on practice and guided discussions, participants will learn how to integrate these tools into their teaching, regardless of their current tech proficiency level. The session aims to equip educators with practical strategies to incorporate technology effectively into their classroom practices.

Outcomes

  1. Participants will be able to design and implement an interactive activity using PollEv, Menti, or Google Forms that suits their subject area and student engagement goals.
  2. Participants will gain confidence in utilizing at least one tech tool for formative assessments and will practice creating a real-time poll, quiz, or survey during the session. 
  3. Participants will explore and discuss integration strategies for these tools within their own teaching contexts and leave with a plan to apply at least one tool in their upcoming classes.

Advanced Preparation

10-minute tutorials will be provided to pre-watch 

Workshop delivery

The workshop includes interactive activities, mini lectures, and individual time for reflection and work. Participants should bring at least one course outline for which they would like to develop innovative assessment practices.

Dr. Ammar Khan completed his PhD studies from the University of Cambridge. The focus of his PhD research was studying the application of disc-like (discotic) liquid crystals as hole transport layers in hybrid organic/in-organic dye-sensitized and perovskite solar cells. Furthermore, he also studied the interaction of liquid crystalline phases with two-dimensional graphene layers for display and lasing devices.
