Course Craft Workshop

  • Facilitator-led theme sessions 

  • Individual work (building components, applying new skills & knowledge) 

  • Small Group discussion (for peer feedback)

Description: 

Would you like to design or redesign one of your courses and enhance your teaching skills? Join a group of fellow faculty members led by faculty facilitators from the LUMS Learning Institute to discuss strategies for course design and teaching that focus on enhancing student learning. Bring an existing course or your ideas for designing a new one. You will leave this workshop with new insights about teaching and a draft course plan. 

Outcomes: 

  • Apply principles of backwards design to improve student engagement and learning through course planning. 

  • Identify situational factors that affect decisions you make in the design process. • Articulate clear and measurable learning outcomes that are accessible to a variety of learners. 

  • Adopt principles of constructive alignment to select and devise assessment and instructional strategies with intended learning.

2-Day Overview 

The workshop includes interactive activities, mini lectures, and exercises where participants apply course design principles to a specific course in their discipline. There will be opportunities for individual work time and small group discussions for peer feedback on various parts of your design.

Advanced Preparation 

Advanced preparation will be communicated to you as part of the registration confirmation email. Upon registration confirmation you will be added to the course on LMS to access the resources required during the two days workshop.

Dr. Qasim Imtiaz received his B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Engineering and Technology (UET Lahore). He moved to Deajeon, South Korea to obtain his M.S. in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). After completing his M.S. in 2010 he joined the Institute of Energy Technology, ETH Zürich (Switzerland) to pursue his doctoral studies under the supervision of Professor Christoph Müller. He is a trained facilitator in Instructional Skills Development and Course Design training.

Anusheh is Faculty Development Lead and an education developer at the LUMS Learning Institute (LLI) leading the Faculty Development Initiatives. She is a lead facilitator at LLI for Faculty Certificate in Teaching & Learning, and plays a pivotal role in offering pedagogical consultations to  Higher Education faculty. She is a trained facilitator in Instructional Skills Development and Course Design training. Anusheh is also is a part of policy engagements within university pertaining to teaching and learning.
