Workshop description:

Join us at LUMS Learning Institute for a workshop on the Foundations of Assessment led by faculty facilitators and embark on a transformative journey with novices to seasoned professionals, in enhancing assessment skills. This workshop includes how to create effective assessments that help students grasp meaningful and complex ideas, challenge them, and help them learn important concepts and skills. It delves into the essentials of assessment design, rubric creation, and leveraging technology, all while rethinking assessment practices and regulations. You will get a chance to build on your existing knowledge and experience of effective and efficient assessment to make it a foundational consideration for educational design and practice, rather than a secondary one. This workshop encourages educators to merge their expertise with innovative practices, promising invaluable insights to positively impact student learning and satisfaction. Workshop Delivery:

The workshop includes interactive activities, mini lectures, and exercises where participants will understand what constitutes effective assessments and apply design principles to create innovative assessments. There will be opportunities for individual work and small group discussions on peer feedback on different aspects of assessments.

Anusheh is Faculty Development Lead and an education developer at the LUMS Learning Institute (LLI) leading the Faculty Development Initiatives. She is a lead facilitator at LLI for Faculty Certificate in Teaching & Learning, and plays a pivotal role in offering pedagogical consultations to  Higher Education faculty. She is a trained facilitator in Instructional Skills Development and Course Design training. Anusheh is also is a part of policy engagements within university pertaining to teaching and learning.

Angbeen Atif Mirza holds a B.A., LL.B from LUMS (2008), and an LL.M from the University of Michigan Law School (2010). She is the Faculty Director for the LUMS Office of Accessibility and Inclusion. She also serves on the Board of Digital Rights Foundation, a cyber rights organization working in Pakistan.

Angbeen’s primary area of interest lies in clinical legal education, specifically street law, live client clinics, and access to justice work. Currently, her area of focus is on paralegal education in the areas of citizenship, basic civic education, women’s right to property and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms. She is also working on improving and encouraging conversations and action around accessibility, inclusion, consent, harassment and bystander interventions at LUMS.

Dr. Qasim Imtiaz received his B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Engineering and Technology (UET Lahore). He moved to Deajeon, South Korea to obtain his M.S. in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). After completing his M.S. in 2010 he joined the Institute of Energy Technology, ETH Zürich (Switzerland) to pursue his doctoral studies under the supervision of Professor Christoph Müller. He is a trained facilitator in Instructional Skills Development and Course Design training.

Fatima Iftikhar is an accomplished educator and educational developer with a demonstrated history of working in higher education, focusing on teaching and learning enhancements and faculty-student partnerships. She has worked extensively in curriculum and pedagogy with higher education and non-profit organizations. Her educational background includes a Master of Philosophy in Education Leadership and Management from Lahore University Management Sciences.

As the program coordinator at LLI, she is driven by a passion to advance LUMS's strategic mission of enhancing teaching and learning (T&L). Her commitment lies in cultivating a community where teaching excellence and student success are paramount, thereby contributing significantly to LLI's overarching goals.

Rehana is an MPhil graduate in Education Leadership and Management from LUMS, driven by a passion to enhance learning experiences across diverse educational settings in Pakistan. With over 7 years of experience, she has honed her expertise in integrating artificial intelligence (AI) within the educational sector, primarily focusing on its transformative potential in assessment, pedagogy, social media, and ethical use.
